CROSSWIND PROFICIENCY
Build confidence when the wind doesn’t line up with the runway.
Sharpen wind assessment, drift control, touchdown alignment, and directional control in real crosswind conditions.
Assess the wind, control the drift, stay aligned.
Crosswind proficiency depends on three things: reading the wind correctly, choosing an effective correction technique, and maintaining directional control through touchdown and rollout.
We’ll practice crab and wing-low methods, transition to touchdown alignment, gust corrections, and go-around decisions so the technique becomes deliberate instead of improvised.
You’ll work on
- Crosswind takeoffs and landings
- Wind assessment and runway selection
- Crab and wing-low sideslip techniques
- Aileron and rudder coordination
- Touchdown alignment and rollout control
- Gust corrections and go-around decisions
- Practical personal crosswind limits
Who it’s for
This session is well suited to pilots returning after time away, aircraft owners learning a new airplane, tailwheel pilots refining directional control, or anyone who tends to avoid windy days.
How the session works
A short preflight discussion followed by concentrated takeoff, approach, landing, and rollout practice. Training can be completed in a Foothill aircraft or, when appropriate, in your own airplane.
